1. Love Yourself
You are a unique individual with unique talents and abilities. Some, you haven’t even realized exist within you yet. Make a list of all your great qualities and focus on them. Tell yourself you can do everything you want to do. Tell yourself you are smart and capable of accomplishing anything you work hard to accomplish.
Try to let go of any anger or resentment you feel for other people. Wake up every morning with a compliment. Treat yourself to something nice. You deserve it!
2. Build confidence with Exercise
Stand up tall. If you look good, you will feel good! Exercising 20-30 minutes a day most days can help improve mood in people with mild to moderate depression. Not only will it improve your mood and overall appearance, it will also decrease your risk of heart disease and cancer, lower blood pressure, and give you energy!
Schedule a time for exercise and start slow so you can develop a habit. Try new things like biking, swimming, hiking, or jogging. Go for a walk around the neighborhood or clean your house. Any physical activity helps!
3. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
This is a hard one. In the world of social media, where everyone is showing everyone else their lives, families, jobs, purchases, it’s hard to not compare yourself to others and become resentful or envious. You must stay focused on you and your individual path. We all have different paths and different timelines. Just think, the person you are comparing yourself to is probably comparing themselves to someone else! The best approach is to be happy with what you have and have accomplished so far, and continually try to improve your situation. Not to display to other people, but for your own self.
Try unplugging from social media if seeing certain posts make you feel even a tiny bit uncomfortable. Once you build more confidence within yourself and your life, none of your peer’s posts will bother you.
4. Surround Yourself with Positivity
Spend time with the people that love you and accept you for who you are. Happy people who are welcoming and happy to be around you. Spend time with people who encourage you and tell you you can achieve what you want to achieve. Stay away from people that try to stop you from moving forward. Positive energy coming from friends and loved ones is contagious and will improve your daily life.
Put up posters in your room that make you smile. Change your wallpaper on your laptop to an image that makes you smile. Change your phone’s background image. Frame pictures of loved ones and put them around your work space. Watch television shows that make you laugh.
5. Help Others
Is there a subject area or field you have a lot of knowledge of? Are you good at giving advice to others? Helping other people with their problems will not only help them feel better, but will also help you feel good about yourself and what you know. Go on a message board and see if there is anyone you can help. It will build confidence in you knowing that you have enough knowledge about a subject to help someone else with it. Putting your knowledge out there will also help you perfect it. Maybe you can also learn something from someone else in the process. Double win!
Smiling not only puts you in a better mood, studies show smiling makes you look more attractive! Smiling reduces stress and helps you improve your immune system. It also helps your heart. Smiling is contagious and can help brighten someone else’s day. It helps reduce pain and increases endurance.
Smiling will make you look and feel younger. Smiling also makes us appear more self-confident. Smiling can help add up to 7 years to your life! Go ahead and say CHEEEEESE!!
7. Dress to impress
Take the time to work on your appearance. You don’t need to have the latest fashion clothing and accessories to look good. Just make sure your clothing fits well and that you are comfortable. Take good care of what you have and your outward appearance. Get a nice haircut and keep up with good hygiene. Once again, if you look good, you will feel good. If you feel good, you will feel more confident. Everyone will notice!
8. Put on a Playlist
Create a playlist with all your favorite upbeat songs. Play it every morning and whenever you are feeling down. Music lowers blood pressure, reduces stress and anxiety, boosts memory, and helps relieve pain. It will also make you happy by releasing “happy” hormones in the brain. It will also help spark creativity, which will help you get more ideas.
Music will help keep your brain healthy. So go ahead, turn on your favorite music, and dance!
9. Accept Your Weaknesses
We all have areas of ourselves that need improvement. We are not perfect people. When you need help on something, do not hesitate to ask for it. Things do not change overnight, be patient. Identify areas of weakness and take steps to improve them. When you are aware of and accept your strengths and weaknesses, you’ll be able to move forward in life with more confidence.
10. Set Your Self Small Goals
Set up small goals for yourself that you can accomplish. Tell yourself, today you are going to accomplish something, and set out to do that. Write one goal every morning and try to accomplish it that day. Make a list of things you have accomplished and a list of things you want to accomplish. Make a list of things you like about yourself. Make a list of good habits that you follow.
Small feelings of accomplishment will give your confidence a big boost.
